Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Chapter History
After several years of seeking to charter a chapter in the South Shore - Cape Cod Area of Massachusetts, the dreams of two of our Charter Members Mrs. Rosa M. Edwards-Ellis and Mrs. Olga Gall Lyken of Randolph Massachusetts became a reality.
The future members of Norfolk-Plymouth County Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated met at 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 14, 1987 at the First United Presbyterian Church located at 57 Wyman Street in Brockton, MA (Plymouth County). The chartering ceremony commenced at 2:30 PM that day. Norfolk-Plymouth County Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was the first black sorority in this area. The Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 at Howard University by twenty-two women. Two founders were alive at the time of our chartering. Mrs. Bertha Pitts Campbell of Seattle, Washington and Mrs. Naomi Sewell Richardson of Washingtonville, New York.
